Our Secretariat -the 'engine room' of CAI
The CAI Secretariat is open to anyone who is not a lawyer but wishes to participate in and support our work and agenda.
It principally conducts research for CAI submissions on law reform questions, including the drafting and compilation of such submissions, or it may involve organising a mass email to law-makers. The Secretariat also may help organise international or national conferences on animal law and animal welfare subjects.
Secretariat members comprise, for example, students, people with skills in graphic design, IT, marketing, administration, academia and science.
Profiles of some members of the Secretariat are listed below.
Anastasia Smietanka
Anastasia has been an animal welfare advocate since she became vegetarian at age 3. She is currently studying a combined Law and Media degree at the University of Melbourne with a double major in French studies. Having been involved in various animal welfare groups, she sees her involvement in CAI as an innovative opportunity to petition for animal welfare through the law. She is Deputy National Co-ordinator of the Barristers Animal Welfare Panel in Australia. She contributes with her IT, administrative and legal skills.
